make sure you have the right microphone selected & problem with recording device

Hi
I wonder can some one help.
I have downloaded SKYPE to make calls over the internet. I have been able to send text to the other person but conversations are not happening. The messages I get are 'make sure you have the right microphone selected' & 'problem with recording device'. Using a SONY VAIO VGN-NR21M/S. Am able to listen, for example, to the radio over the internet. I have a headset with microphone but it seems PC/SKYPE do not detect it. I have in WINDOWS gone to Programs-Control Panel-Sound & then to Recording & the message is REALTEK High Defination Audio not plugged in. The default tab will not work. In Playback (by same route) the message is Speaker/HP Realtek High Defination Audio working with a green tab. I have moved the USB that came with the headphone to all 4 ports with no positive result.
Any ideas.Thanks. James

You need to use the microphone port not USB for the microphone. That's why it says "not plugged in".

thank you to Unionflag

Thanks Unionflag for the advice. You were totally right. Was able to luckily return the headset to PC City & got full refund. Thanks.

Ah. PC City, part of DSGi. They should give you the proper advice before purchasing any product.
