NO SOUND when UPGRADED to VISTA

heyy guys. I have an HP and i recently wiped my computer and upgraded to vista instead of XP because of many different problems. My computer is vista capable and now it runs like new with vista but i dont have any sound?! in the device manager it says its all working properly and when i pay sound the computer recognizes it but no sound comes out. all volumes are up and mutes are off. what do i do?!

okay.. sound does work, but only when i plug in headphones into the jack but no sound is coming from built in speakers on my HP notebook. how do i fix this?

Hi, this may help.

To set the default device, follow these steps

Click Start, type Sound in the Start Search box, and then click Sound in the search results at the top of the Start menu.
Click the Playback tab. A check mark is displayed next to the default device. For most users, the default device is Speakers.
Click the item that you want to set as the default device, and then click Set Default.
Click OK to save your settings and to close the Sound dialog box.
