tcpip corrupt. windows wont start

hi guys, i did 2 things last night; replaced my tcpip.sys file with another, and added one new bit of info to the registry.

i have the backup of the config on my desktop..and i know where to registry file is to delete it.. is there any way i can log on to windows and edit whats in my systems folder/registry so i can fix things up? Currently it will not boot up in any mode (safemode etc). far as it goes is to the loading, black, vista screen where it freezes when the bar goes to half way on the first pass. a blsd ensues

i really need to get in and fix this up guys

Hi, do you have the Vista OS disk? If so run a repair http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial148.html Did you try Last Good Known Configuratipon?
If not you have two options. 1) you will need another PC to create a boot disk http://ubcd4win.com/howto.htm this can be a Vista or XP cd. All this will do is allow you to get to your important docs ect to get them copied to another media.
2) take out the hard drive an place in in another PC to get the data off.
To get Vista to work again you will have to ahve a Vista OS disk.

yes i did try last known config. i tried all options on that screen.

no i dont have the cd..its a laptop and i only have a recovery disk (which only offers the options to restore to factory state...convineant..)

i do however have another compuer with vista ultimate, can i use the recovery option on that?

also, if i did do the bootdisk thing, will i be able to then go ahead and just rewrite the current tcpip.sys file with my backup one? it should work then..

Hi,

"i do however have another compuer with vista ultimate, can i use the recovery option on that?"

Yes you may be able to when it asks for your cd key select no. Then select the OS you have on the lappy (DO NOT UPAGRADE AS YOU WILL NEED THE CD KEY LATER)
