VAIO - VGN-C708/W, Problem Restart

Hello Guys,

Greeting from a new comer. I have a problem to start up my laptop (with windows vista home premium, and dual-language keyboard) purchased in Japan in 2007.

Today, when I switched on there was no usual message asking for my personal password, instead a colour line (yellow)/square appears on the screen.....the first time??

Then I started the repair and recovery procedures as suggested (automatically apprear on the screen), but not succesful. Please help - rather urgent.

Btw, my knowledge of computer is pretty shallow....step by step advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
ADC

adc2009... That sounds scary!
Assuming you're out of warranty from no mention of contacting Sony support? I haven't experienced the particular problem you're facing (or maybe by today you've found a remedy, hopefully) - but I have found a great deal of help at NotebookReview.com, look for mfgr 1st, then your model should have its own forum (mine does but I often read/post to other threads as applicable).

Assuming also that you've already tried your recovery discs plus you've already tried the hardware diagnostics---&, of course the usual System Restore, & no response? Not knowing what you last installed or changed, or other symptoms (like overheating, etc), makes it all the more challenging to try to suggest anything. Also I think there's something(s) I'm overlooking---especially given the very late hour here & how sleepy I am now!

Sure wish I could offer something much more specific to your situation but, honestly, I can't. When I read your post, I just felt so much that I wanted to help in some way. I'm brand new to this site myself, just signed up today so I haven't had the chance to take a good look around yet. Please, if or rather WHEN you do find a fix, would you kindly post the details here? Surely there must be others who have experienced the same unusual no-login screen & no response as you (or if they haven't, they will---could be me, too;-) You never know! Best of luck to you.

What happened when you tried the repair option? Was the yellow square there from when you first turned on your machine?

If so, it's either an LCD or motherboard problem.
