Download TweakUI from here (highlight "Desktop" in the left panel):

Rightclick on desktop and bring up properties, go to desktop tab and click on Customize Desktop ....wait. D'oh! ....it's not there... I found it once... let me see here...

Ah! Here it is! Open my computer and bring up properties ...wait. You cant delete it there either. Oh, yes. If i remember correctly, theres no way to remove it from the desktop... You can remove everything else, just not the recycle bin, for some reason. I'm sure theres some registry, .dll, or windows file you can screw with in some way to make it go away, but im not that leet =/

If using XP Pro

Go to START > RUN

Type GPEDIT.MSC

Navagate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,

On the right hand pane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " , double click on it and tick enable.

If using XP Home

Either use TweakUI or make the change manually in the registry.

Create or modify the following registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

REG_DWORD

0x00000001
