Win XP Clean Reinstall

I just performed a clean reinstall of my Windows XP Home edition and though I had a few difficulties, everything seems fine now with one exception. At startup I am now presented with a balck screen asking me to choose between two operating systems, both of which are Windows XP Home Edition. The first choice (where it defaults after 30 seconds) is my newly configured system with all applications and devices. The second choice starts up another version which doesn't have any of my programs or devices. Can anyone tell me a) Why and how this happened? and b) how do I get rid of this screen choice? I don't want to do another reinstall as this could present three choices for me.

Thanks,
Kevin

Check to see if you really have two instances of XP on your computer. If not, to get rid of the unwanted 2nd choice at startup:

1. Click Start > Run
2. In the Open: line type msconfig and click OK to open System Configuration Utility
3. Select the tab labeled BOOT.INI
4. Click the button labeled Check All Boot Paths

A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating system locations.

5. Confirm you want to remove the entry and reboot the system.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your reply. Your instructions were perfect and clear and the result was a clean reboot. I truly appreciate your timely assistance. You're a prince among men (or perhaps a princess among women, I don't know!)
