PcCillin
Hey-collective conciousness-Your opinion on PcCillin Internet Security 2004: After a couple IT types including a hormone hacker, recommended it; I bought a copy of
PcCillin Internet Security 2004. A repair guy that resolved a DVD
ROM/Reader conflict I had, said that any of the "internet security"
apps tend to crash most Microsoft systems. Well great...
what are your thoughts? Thanx Mike

it is what i am using, on all the systems i have much to do with. i like it and highly recommend it. i am not going to rip on the other security/anti virus programs and start a big long debate why i think the others totally suck right now. F-secure is very good right now too, but uses alot of resources like norton.

I have said that many time,, what works for YOU then keep it and don't listen to what EXPERTS tell you... K_C likes PcCillin, then that's what he might recommend to his customer, so don't be so hang up on what experts tell you, if your utility works for you then, that's it.
I have never used PcCillin and I don't think I will have to in future, I recommend Symantec software to my customers cause I know it has user friendly interface (duhhhhh) and people like that, but my personal PC has F-secure installed and I never had problem with it.
cheers

the reason i am using pc cillin on customer computers right now, it is easier to use then norton, firewall wise. it does not pop up screens all the time asking to allow this and that, does the job without being aggrevating.the anti virus is just as good as any other i have used. also one thing i truely hate about norton, is it loves to tell people in a pop up that someone is attempting to access their machine and offers a trace for it. i have people call me constantly wanting to know what to do, "this keeps trying to get in". i tell them not to worry because it did it's job and nothing bad happened, and if something bad did happen norton would not tell you because if it could get by norton, it wont set off any alarms. i use the free avg on my personal computer and sygate personal firewall(free also). if something gets by, big deal, i got backups of everything. i have a router i block most ports with anyway, so the firewall is just a safety net. one thing to think about, different hardware and software setups can cause conflict with anti virus and firewall programs, so it is basically hit or miss what will work well for you. when i setup a computer, i install what i know works well with everything else, and suggest software when they need new programs for what ever reason so they have less problems.

Well, when I got my "Ebay clone" it had McAffee installed, but only a trial version. IT finally ran out and between the requests
to purchase and constant windows asking whether to allow
connectivity (which I figured wasa setting I'd neglected to address); plus it'd been said that PcCIllin gave the fixes to Norton and McAffee for the latest hacks and viruses. I don't know-I just
got this thing back out of the shop after not being able to resolve
a DVDburner/ROM conflict that would reboot the cpu any time I tried to view a DVD in either drive. CMOS was enabled and master/slave jumper set. Anyway, hate that it might take up so much HD space but it's paid for. I suppose I just need to get used to it's layout. AVG antivirus and Spybot search and destroy are presently installed (gift from the puter tech-his preference). I'm still refitting views and Outlook preferences the way I had em before. My main goal is transferring all my lp's and cassettes to CD and vhs/hi8 tape to DVD. AV studio stuff. Clean house. Have Pinnacle Express and Advert A/D converter which I've used on a test burn. Probably just a matter of time before my next "BWWAAAAAAAAAAAAA"-lol.

as a longtime home user of pc-cillin, i have to say that its an amazing antivirus. i used norton for years, after dumping mcafee. norton was easy enough to use, but they werent always on the ball concerning pretty common schemes used by hackers, etc. pc-cillin really is a good software to get set-up, and then literally forget about. itll let you know whos trying to get into your box, but like mentioned, its not obtrusive in constant reminders, and often self updates. btw, i have never seen another company so up to date with their new updates as these guys. plus, theyre pretty lax. ive been running 2002, which they still update at least once a week, until a week ago, when they finally told me, over 2 years later, that i needed to buy a new license. i have run a trial of 2004 before, which can be a rather strict firewall. it did give me problems with the new internet explorer (8, i think it was). microsoft sells so much of your damn info, that so many spies were setting cookies, etc, so pccillin blocked everything and i couldnt access a lot of pages, but when i switched to mozilla firebird, i have had no problems or slowing issues with the new updated series of pccillin. i really highly recommend. as someone who does enough on the net to need a lot of protection, this will help you, for cheap. sorry to be longwinded. hope that helps.

Pc Cillin
Thank you Stiff-This means alot to me. I had McAffee then hit the pay to play wall and went with PcCIllin on recommendation. I'll install it then uninstall the other(s). Intend to install trial of Webroot Spysweeper for Spyware-or do thing that PcCillin 2004 Internet Security will cover for spyware? The IT types at work are now using it and it's user-friendly in layout.
