if you have a enhanced keyboard, meaning it has extra features like volume controls and shortcut buttons to email and odd things it has software that runs it, if the spyware scanner seen it's auto updater as a spyware app and removed it it could cause the enhanced features not to work, but the standard key should still function. same applies for the mouse. spyware removal should not have any effect on the basic functionality of these devices. if they are both usb devices you may have to update your usb controller drivers, or chipset drivers if they are a combined package. or one could be malfunctioning and causing the usb controllers to have problems with all usb devices, if you have other usb hardware like printers or scanners..... one of those could also be the cause. if both are ps2 plugin devices the same theory would apply, either the mouse or keyboard could have a problem causing loading issues with the port. bios updates for your motherboard may have a patch that fixes connectivity issues with a faulty port also. if your cmos battery is getting old and has little or no charge left it can cause hardware not to be detected or not detected correctly. other drivers loading with windows could hang and cause those drivers not to load, so updating all the drivers on your system would be a good idea, and illiminate that as a issue.
