XP+Win2k dual boot removal issue

Well, I need some help here...My friend has a dual boot of XP+2K...and wants to remove XP completely and stay only with 2K.

The problem is that it looks a bit more complicated than hitting 'shift+del' and deleting the entire xp directory

Some background:
She had win98SE installed on drive C:
after a month, some1 installed winXP on drive D: (which created a dual boot menu on startup ofcourse)
Two weeks ago, I formatted her drive C: and installed Win2k on drive C: (dual boot menu stayed ofcourse)

The problem is, how to i get rid of the winxp folder without ruining her comp.

I managed to remove the dual boot menu via 'My comp-> proporties->advances->startup and recovery' and removed the 'display list of OS on startup..' option.

Is it safe to erase winxp folder? If not, what is the right way to do it?

Thanks

Well it seem like it is kind of messed-up already ,, since you have remove the XP from startup menu, you could go ahead and remove the Windows XP installation directory (by Default it will be called Windows, of course win98 does the same thing), what you can't remove is the Program files and other folder....
since the system in operable right now, you should save your file and do a clean install and not worry about these stuff anymore.

cheers

Format the specific partition that has xp on it. OK.... To fix the master boot record. Get a bootable dos disc and boot into dos.

type in:

fdisk /mbr

and it will rewrite the boot record and you will just be running windows 2000.

problem solved.

I accidently installed win2k on my d drive (already on c drive) when reformatting a while back. I deleted all win2k folders and files in the d drive, leaving only my 50 gig of important files and programs. Is the DOS idea safe for me to try as well? I already went under startup and recovery so OS's are not listed at startup. However, if fixing the issue is as simple as typing a line a DOS, I want to fix it. I just do not want to do anything that may risk messing up anything.

joenorwood77, you should start you own thread instead of using this one.

Question;
Can you boot into any of the two operating system right now ?
You have some files on your drive that you don't want to loose right ?? what does stop you from re-installing the Windows 2000 again ? you are not going to loose and of your files, but your programs will not works and have to reinstall the programs only. Pay attention to details when you re-install Windows 2000 that you don't want to reformat the drive (point number 1) and you should leave the system setting the same as before "No changes" (point number 2). Don't try the repair install if you don't have a Emergency repair disk.

cheers
