game problem

I have a problem, but i do not know if it is my windows xp, or my settings or what. When i install a certain game, the game will start and go through the beginning movie thing. after that, before it gets to the main menu screen, the computer will restart, and when i log back into my name, a little thing pops up saying that my system has recovered from a serious error?...is it something that i'm doing wrong?

What is the system specs of your computer?

Especially what graphic card do you have and what drivers are you using for it. But the graphic card name i need for sure.

Also what game is it you are having the trouble with?

I do not know how to check my specs...please tell me? the game i've having a problem with is "Driver" I've gotten it to work once, a while back, but not since. Could you tell me how to check my graphics card, and my drivers? i wouldn't want to lie to you and take a guess.

Ok download Belarc and run it it will tell you what graphic card you have. Also it will tell you what system specifications you have.

You need to find out how much memory your computer has, what processor you have as in intel pentium 2 or 3 or 4.

You will find the graphic card you ahve under the word DISPLAY when you run Belarc.

Is that the exact name of the game?

Here, this should tell you what you need to know...I can't hardly make heads or tales of it. Yes, the name of the game is "Driver" it's a popular p/s, p/c game. But weirdly, it's the only game this happens on...i don't know why.

I cannot find any info on the game 'Driver' but ...

With your system spec you are probably well below the spec for running any modern games.

Your graphics card is using system RAM.

Your system RAM is very, very low for running XP.

You may be using onboard graphics but i doubt it looking at your setup.

Main thing is Loosechippings ahs already said it, and that is your system specifications are not powerfull enough for the game.

You need more than 128 megs of ram, considering you have XP home and a lot fo other hardware you are lucky to be running the computer truth be told.

It is no big thing you just need more memory for starters buy another stick of memory i would get 256sd ram extra if i was you.

Your graphic cacrd may only only be a 16 meg or 32 meg which for some games is no good.

But get more memory you realy do need it.

ok, i will go get more memory tomorrow and reply again tomorrow night. Did you notice that my D: drive only has 1.04 GB free? how do i go about raising that number? i've tried to delete everything i could find that i knew wouldn't harm the computer...but i just can't raise it. Any ideas? Thanks

Ok, I went to Hypertech today and their 256sd RAM was $119, they have 128 for $69, could i just get one of them instead? I was wondering, could it be a game defect maybe? Maybe the disc is messed up or something?

It's going to be a few days on the memory, i'm a little on the broke side right now, but if you have any more ideas, post them and i'll certainly try them.

About the replies you both have written about my video driver(s)...could one of you kind of explain that to me? i'm lost. I'd really appreciate it and all of the help both of you are giving me. Thank you both.

The price of the memory is crazy. You need to to goto Ebay.com

Here is afine example of great priced memory.

Kingston memory great make Although you will not be able to bid on this one it does show you what you save.

DO NOT buy your SDRAM for the price you said in your post.

Do not be scared of Ebay it is fine just buy from people with great feedback.

I have bought a lot from there and no problems..


As for the drivers, you have a graphic card or built in graphic that uses Nvidia drivers. drivers are a programme of commands that tells the graphic card what to do how to work on all levels.

there is ATI graphics and there drivers are different.

The main thing is you are using Nvidia drivers but i cannot see the card that Belarc should of listed.

I am starting to think you have built in graphics on the motherboard that you are using.

If this is the case then you will not be able to play good quality high end games.

You will need to buy a graphic card.

Look at these Graphic cards and please look in side your computer case and tell me if you have similar.

Look at this picture it is of a graphic card on a motherbaord, it will show you what to look for inside your computer.

I have found out so i think anyway, he is using onboard video so he will not get great graphics for a lot of games as you know.

he is going to have buy an AGP card.

But then i have heard some onboard graphics are quite good and upto the job.

But still you cannot beat a good AGP graphic acrd for games if that is what people are into.
