Registry Error 0x00000051

Hi I am in need of some help. Recently my computer crashed with a stop error 0x00000051.

Every time I start the computer it automatically takes me to the F8 options page and no matter which option I choose, I end up getting the same stop error.

I have tried to repair from CD, but still get the same error when I choose the setup option and go repair, because it detects a previously installed winxp which then leads to the same stop error.

I have also tried to repair from recovery console, but when it prompts for installation number and I type 1 (this is the only valid number) I also end up at the stop screen.

I can't get into prompt mode and I would like to know how to fix this problem, either that if it can't be fixed, then how do I clean install winxp when I can't get into anything?

Thanks

Do the repair again except this time choose install first. Here si what to do.

Boot up with XP disk in the drive.

follow the instructions like press any key to continue
until you get to the part were it ask do you want
to install XP or repair.

Choose install, don't worry the next screen will offer you
the chance to pick reapir again.

Now at the next screen choose repair.
You will need your Serial number handy.

what will happen it will ask for your serial number
and go through a process as if it is installing XP.

When it is finished by rights all should be fine again.
You will of lost no settings.

Except you will have lost and microsoft updates, so
you will have to reinstall service pack 1 again and any other critical updates.

But all in all it should sort your problem out.

hmm...

yes at the part where it asks if you want to install and you hit F8 to agree to the user agreement, after I hit that, it detects my previous version of winxp and hence I get the stop error screen again.

It doesn't work.

I think this one may work the best, you can do a reapir from the run command. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...md_repair.mspx

Registry Error 0x00000051

I had this same error/problem last night. The computer shut down in mid-stream with this error, which reappeared every time I tried to reboot. Repair wasn't possible because the error repopped as soon as the os was detected (with safe mode, or with trying to run the repair utility on the winxp install disk), nor could I choose to reinstall without having it appear. I was finally able to reinstall windows xp by booting from an old dos system disk, running fdisk and deleting the partition xp was on (thank god my data was on a separate partition!), and reformatting. After that, I was able to do a clean reinstall with no problem. There might be a better solution; but that one will work.

Regards,
ravinwulf

do as others have said but if you want a complete reinstall formatted your partition first. that error is a corrupt registry file that is why you need a fresh start.

Hello, I am having the same issue as well. Seems like this thread started 5 years ago and yet no positive solution.

I can't seem to figure out how to reinstall using DOS program like a person mentioned. I have tried several things including starting in Safe Mode, but as soon as Windows (XP Pro) starts, the BSD appears with no options.

I have read many threads regarding this issue and still nothing. If the registry is corrupted, how did that happen?

Is my "C" drive shot? Is everything on it gone? If I cant boot, does that mean I lost everything?

Thanks,

Morriah
