dialer question

I am running XP on a Dell Dimension 4300. Use DSL from Bellsouth. When I am on line I frequently hear a dialer sound in the back ground. I have disabled the dell fax modem but the dialer sound still occurs. The device manager does not show any other modems/dialers. Everything appears to work ok... just the dialer sound is annoying...

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for your help

This is not a real fix for the dialer. You could open your tower & disconnect the speaker. That way you wouldnt hear the sound till you can figure it out.
Sorry this is not very techicnal but would keep from drivivg you nuts.
