Time out for auto logoff

I can't remember how to set or reset the length of time before the system automatically logs you off Windows. Anybody?

Isn't there a setting somewhere in windows without going to DOS?

Okay, whatever it is, I tried it. Couldn't find anything about my situation. I thought sure it was some setting in the user set up. Any more ideas?

In Control Panel>Power Options, you can set the time at which your computer will go into "Standby". Maybe that is what you're looking for?

Is it the Hibernate feature? I'm not sure. There's no place to adjust length of time for it, either.

I don't mind the hibernation, but I'd like to adjust the time. I can't find anything in the register for it.

I'm stumped. Maybe there isn't anything that adjusts the time; maybe it's just the way it is.

when I leave my computer it will eventually time out and I have to log back on to windows; you know, click on my name and give it a password.

What I'm trying to do is make it longer before it times out.

Help

Has anyone figured this out? I am having the same problem.
I am not sure what I changed on my Windows XP machine, but for someone reason, if my PC is idle for about 5 minutes it automatically logs me off to the log on screen. Have to click on my account and enter password again.

Any advice appreciated.

Cory

Are either of you working with XP Pro?

Are you working in a corporate environment with system administrators?

What actually happens ...

Does the screen go blank?

Does a screen saver kick in?

Hello, thanks for the response.

I am using Windows XP Professional at home.

I dont have a network, just 1 PC on Cable internet.

What happens is this..

I log on my account, start doing whatever.

As long as I am active(ie..browsing, moving the mouse, anything) all is fine. If I leave the computer for a few minutes or stop moving the mouse for more than a few minutes, then XP logs me off to the Log on screen. I have to click on my account and enter password again to log back on.

Screen saver disabled,

Power Saving is disabled

Hibernation disabled.

I have always kept those disabled as they are not something I care to use. this is really making me /boggle. This just started recently.

I can play games w/o it logging me off to the login screen, I can surf the web etc, but if I bring up an article to read and dont use mouse/keyboard, it logs me off withing a few minutes.

Check your screen saver settings carefully.

They differ from user to user.

On the Display Properties > Screen Saver tab, there is a little check box next to:

"On resume, display Welcome screen."

I believe that this may be the culprit.

Cheers
