XP dialup and broadband connection

I have XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. When the computer came, I installed a dialup connection to AT&T Global. I also have a DSL broadband connection.

The dialup is for backup purposes only, and the phone cord is usually not connected to the modem. I have noticed that when I'm using Explorer or Outlook Express, at random times the program shows that I am offline. When I try to go online, the AT&T connection box appears. If I cancel it, the software stays offline. I have to reboot for the DSL service to be recognized again.

I deleted the AT&T connection today, before finding this forum. It was listed as connect only when the network connection was not present. It was not listed as a defaul connection.

Any suggestions?

Change the setting from "Dial when ever a network connection..."

to "Never dial a connection"

And on the same tab click Lan Settings, and uncheck any box in there; as long as you are not going through a proxy server.
