Lost disc and want to install

How can i install over win xp with a new version without having the original disc............

oh and what is dll cache..is it important cos my comp say iam missing files from it for windows to run propeerly....

well, i dont think thats ever been done.

without the disc you cant reinstall xp.

if you already have for example xp home on your computer and just want to reinstall it, you cannot make an xp install disc you have to have it.

No i have a windows xp home disc and want to install it over my current xp proffesional is this possibal without having the xp proffesinal disc

oh yea !
thats possible dude..

umm this is what i did when i installed from home to professional. i inserted the disc while the computer was running.
the setup screen automatically came up and asked me to install professional.

except with youm your downgrading windows not upgrading maybe just try to insert th disc while your computer is running and just do a new install of windows xp home, it should work like that, if not then could somebody please reply in this thread and help us out here!

I believe you will find that you cannot downgrade from XP Professional to XP Home. Nor do I see why you should want to accomplish such a thing. XP Home and XP Pro are, in the main, the same OS with Pro containing better (advanced) security features, more advanced networking features, access to more Command Line tools, etc,. Why would you want to backup to the Home Version even though you probably don't [as most users] really use or need Pro's eatra features.
