auto run for storage device

hello all, i am runing a dell pentium 4 right out the box with windows xp pro, with an external zip drive. the problem thta i am having is..... i have selected perform no action in the auto play tab in the properties for the zip drive (selected each option {video, music, mixed content, etc} and applied perform no action for each) however everytime i insert the zip disk it auto plays, with some settings it will have a display window that shows that the disk is being scanned (progress meter ), it scanns for a brief moment then stops. it is a pain int he butt, if i am typing i need to stop and wait for it to finish bvefor i can resume, and sometimes it pops up windows explorer and explores the disk.

i found a way to diasable this alltogether (through a registry edit) but i cannot seem to find the instructions again. ( i think i found it on the microsoft website, but all i can find now is for auto play for cd's)

also sometimes my disk does not eject when i press the eject button. i have to open windows explorer and right click n the zip drive and select eject. it sometimes gives me a message saying you might have lost some information because the disk is in use. i even get this message when i shut down all running programs.

if anyone can help it would be great, thanks in advance

nino
