MY XP home has problems when i start it please help

HI, when i log in to xp home edition, the task bar does not work for about 1 to 3 minutes when i start xp, if i click on it the system crashes and then i have to hit ctr alt del and view the processor to get it working again.
I dont actually do anytinhg in the processes i just look at them and this seem to get xp working again.
Could you please help me as this is getting very frustating and i have no idea why it is doing it.

Do you recall what was done before this happen ?
Have you tried system recovery ?

To be perfectly honest, it would be very hard to diagnose this issue, my suggestion is to save what ever you can and as fast as possible, and do a clean install. You don't know what has gone wrong and you will try to patch it up but I don't think it would be an stable system after word, so you better dodge the bullet before it is too late.
