A Strange Networking Problem

So I woke up yesterday morning to find my internet not working. To make a long story short, it was ultimately fixed by getting a new ethernet card.

Now, however, my home network is not working (my internet connection is only working on my host computer). I cannot correct it because now whenever I click on "Set up a home or small office network" under Network Connections (Windows XP) the wizard won't run, which is the strange part. I've tried playing around trying to get it to work manually with some stuff I've read here (I'm an amateur, by the by) but no dice. Any way to get this wizard working or if not, is there anything else I can do to fix my network?

I've tried restarts and I've tried to "ping" a client computer. I've been able to ping it from my host to my client, but not from my client to my host. Evidently, the network is running but the clients do not have permission to do anything and to use the internet.

Any help would be much appreciated. And if you need more info, ask away. Thanks.

A Strange Networking Problem

I have run into losing network connection to the network and Internet after installing a network card. Usually, when that happens, I have been able to go:

start---> run ---> cmd

then in the prompt, type ipconfig. if you show and address like 169....., it is a windows based address,

type ipconfig /release

once done,

type ipconfig /renew

and maybe that will fix it.

The DSL modem is plugged into a network card. For my LAN, I have an additional network card for each computer with two phone jacks each. They are connected to each other through the phone line of my house.

I tried the renew and release thing, jeffrow. It didn't work, unfortunately. However, I didn't see any "169"'s for the ip.

By the way, the actual network is working, as in I can browse files between the computers and such. It's only the internet connection that I can't get to work.

that means you did not enable the Internet connection sharing on your NIC. One of the network cards has to have the ICS enabled and you got to make sure the you don't force IP address on your client computer, let the DHCP of the main computer hand out the IP.

The thing is, I can't run the Network Setup Wizard, as my first post states. Also, the Windows help said that there should be some checkbox under the Advance tab that I should be able to check to enable it manually, but that's not there either. Is there any other way to enable it?

After many grueling hours, I decided to convert one of the clients into the host and make the host a client...and it finally works! Thanks for the help. =)
