Start >> programs

Hey,

My girlfriend was messing around with the computer, trying to make it look 'sexy', and she must have pressed something to stuff this up:

When i go to start >> programs, nothing comes up. It used to work, but it doesn't now.

I have tried 'classic' mode, and the new mode, but they both dont work.

My start menu folder is in the right place, and 'programs' seems to connect to it, but it just says 'EMPTY'.

I'm not to good with computers. I just use them for making / editing music. It'll just make life easier if 'programs' worked.

Thanks in advance,

- vVolf

have you tryed system restore it should do the trick

if you cannot get to the search command because nothing happens when you click start then do this, press F3 then on the left you will get a search box appear look down it and you will see FILES OR FOLDERS click on that then another box will replace the first one, now click all files and folders then you can now type your words now type SYSTEM RESTORE it will find 2 files for you which will appear in the box on the right now click on the bottom one of the 2 this will bring up system restore up for you, now make sure the box next to restore my computer to an earlyier time is clicked, now click next and choose from the dates you will see a time before your g/friend messed with the computer and click restore.

let me know how you get on

I too have this problem and system restore is not an option. This problem occurred as a result of or simply at the same time that my system was infected with a virus that could not be removed until system restore was turned off, which eliminated all restore points.

Can anyone give me more suggestions on how to fix this problem?

It has occurred with every user on the machine and is also in effect on a newly created user. I click on Start - Programs - and it is empty. In fact, in classic mode, it even says "empty". However, if I right click and choose open or explore, the programs listing is there. That is rediculously tedious however, and I would like to get it working the way it should.

Also, on a sub-note, if I run windows explorer and go to folder options, then to view options, all the options have disappeared. Probably something to do with the same kind of thing. The area where the checkboxes normally are to select things like "show hidden files/folders" and "hide extensions of known file types" is totally empty.

Any ideas?

Storm
