Exploit Byte Verify Trojan

My friend has a brand new Dell Dimension 4600 running XP home edition and it has become infected.
I spend several hours yesterday running two different anti virus programs, a trojan scanner and three different spyware programs. Even after everything is cleaned, the antivirus finds the same four trojan files on start up every time. It pops up and says they were found and deleted. Obviously they aren't deleted or they wouldn't keep coming up. How do I get rid of this for good???

run disk cleanup, select more options and cleanup system restore. if the computer had a virus when any of the restore points were made it will cause what you describe.

Okay I cleared the Java cache, cleared the internet files, cleaned out the system restore files. That didn't do it.

So then I went to Safe mode, ran the AV again, then redid the above, ran two spyware programs and its gone!

Thanks for your help!
