Ping of Death on my XP pro system

I play an online game called Star Wars Galaxies. In the last month I have been having problems with it shutting the program down when it has to process a lot of information from the server of the game. I noticed that it mainly did it when the computer had been on for 8 or more hours. If I reboot it, it seems to solve the problem. I also seem to be able to avoid the problem if I do my best to acquire the information as slowly as possible instead of overloading it.

Today, I decided to have a look at my router log and noticed that when it had shut down on me about 8 times in a row, the log showed a ping of death coming from my computer. I am a computer tech but this is actually the first time I had heard of it. I have had a hard time finding information on what would be causing this and how to solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Back in the day (win95 and before) some machines could be crashed by sending off funky ping packets. The problem has been solved in modern OS's, but it sounds like you might have something on your system trying to send these funky packets out to others. If you could tell us what processes you have running (Start->Run0>tasmgr->processes), I could probably tell you which one's don't belong and/or are causing the problem.

I've had this problem in the past, my computer sent PODs to itself and other computers ... I never worked out the problem but modern OS's tackle it anyway. This is unlikely to be the reason SWG is crasing out.
