Why is my machine so slow accessing network images?
Good evening,
I have a small network at home consisting of a Mac running OSX and 2 PC's running Windows XP Pro. I access images that are on my Mac via the network from the PC's. I recently set up the second PC and I noticed something very odd. First, let me say that the network has been great and the cross platform networking is smooth. One PC is 333 Mhz and it has no trouble with speed or access to the Mac. The second machine that was just set up has a clean installation of XP Pro (same as the other machine) and all seemed fine until I wanted to insert a picture into email in AOL via the network. For some reason it slows to a crawal as it tries to show the thunmbnails and then after selecting the image it takes forever to bring it into the body of the email. The machine is nt sluggish when I just open those same folders and view the thumbs without AOL. On the first PC, however it is speedy and no hangups doing exactly the same thing. I have the machines configured exactly the same way.
What could be the cause of this when the rest of the machine and network access seems fine and another machine behaves just fine?
Thank you,
Robert
