WinXP works differently to other versions of windows by utilising different folder areas etc to test the applications to see why they are failing use Application Compatiblilty Toolkit from the MS web site you might find that it some hardcoding within the apps that when they install they are looking for a specific version of Windows to be present. Once the problems are identified with the applications you may be able to create specific fixes for them using the toolkit!

Hi letthisbetheone

Try dual booting. That way, you will have the best of both worlds: -

Naturally, install the older OS first.

Good luck.

go to the control panel, then add remove programs. select add, then browse to the cd or the installer exe, follow the steps to install the program in compatibility mode, with whatever os it worked best with.

I think you have to evaluate if the older programs are worth the time and problems you may have. If you set up a dual boot system , you must format the whole drive and then partition it. Next you will have to load the older operating systemWhich isn't as stable as xp. next you will load xp in the second partition. As I said are those old programs really worth the 10- 20 gigabites space you will commit to the win 98 partition? Next you will load all your programs. Then you will have to find compatable drivers for 98. I was there and I had to reload my system. I know its your decision, but I didn't think it was worth it. GOOD LUCK
