c:\windows\system32 window

I am getting a C:\windows\system32 window that opens automatically whenever I restart windows. Anyone have any ideas as to why that might happen?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP 1.

Thanks.

See if this Knowledge Base Article from Microsoft is helpful.

"System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=170086

If that doesn't take care of the problem and especially if you're using a Dell computer try this:

Open the MSCONFIG utility (Start/Run type in MSCONFIG click OK) and deselect (uncheck) the /L:ENG entry from
the STARTUP tab, click Apply, click OK and restart your computer.

I am using a Dell, and that /L:ENG is in the STARTUP section of the MSCONFIG. However, I looked at the article you linked to and one of the regiestry entries that it says to check has the /L:ENG as it's value. Will that be a problem?

The entry is this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

SB Audigy 2 Startup Menu

Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure. I would uncheck /L:ENG in msconfig. If there's a problem with your sound card, then put the check back and look for another solution (call Dell?). Every time I've heard of this problem, the user had a Dell.

Interesting. I unchecked the /L:ENG in the MSCONFIG, applied, restarted, and the window didn't come up.

I left the registry setting as it was.

I haven't noticed any problems yet with the sound card. I also, have an email into Dell about it. I waited on hold way to long when I called.

Thanks for the advice to a fellow Minnesota'n.

I too have a Dell with an Audigy soundcard. I had the same problem shortly after I set up the computer a couple of months ago. I unchecked the L:/ENG in msconfig and have not had a problem since and the soundcard works fine. Yours should also.
