Windows Installer Big Problem

Hi!

I having a problem with the windows Installer. I'm trying to install a game (FarCry) and the windows installer just hangs. It goes like this... auto-run the cd -> choose install -> Choose Language... After this it shows me a a windows saying that is configurating the windows installer and goes to the end. (just a note, when it's "creating" the windows installer script it slows a little, is this normal?). After this is done, the InstallShield bar stays in the taskbar, but no window!!! The only think i see is the desktop! I notice if i make the "move window" with the shortcuts, the limits of the window appears, but no window! First I though it was from the game, but before i tryed to install the game, the windows update is giving me the same problem. Everithin that I try to install gives me same "hang". I even let the computer torn on during a night to see if the installer moved, but nothing (i done this with the farcry, bf vietnam and windows update). I've already deleted the temp forlders, i have the right permissons in the folders and in the registry, and the windows installer creates the msi file (I cheked the temp folders when installing the game).

This happens with my user (admin) but when i use another user (in this case not admin) the windows installer gives me the error 1628. I searched google for this error, i done (almost) everything that most sites says to do, but still the same error.

My system is a P4 1.7 with 256MB Ram
40G of harddrive (12G free)
Windows XP PRO SP1
Symantec Internet Security (Yes, I already tried with this turned off)

My guess is... my windows installer is "Broken". Is there a way to fix it? (Google didn't worked)

Thx in Advance

Are you trying to install the full game or the demo?

Please post your full system hardware specification.

Start > Run > dxdiag > OK > then get info from there

also

Right Click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

Before you post the info try a bit of spring cleaning by doing a disk cleanup then doing a scandisk then a defrag.
