remote assistance

i'm sure i'm not the only that has ever had this problem, and frankly i'm being lazy and not looking through the forums to see if it's been posted elsewhere. here's my problem, i'm a student living away from my parents. i just upgraded them to windows XP and they've had some issues that i've been able to troubleshoot over the phone. i want to use the remote assistance feature that MS has claimed is so wonderful. i tried going thru windows messenger and it gave me the error "Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again." as you can imagine i did try again and got the same message everytime. i made sure both computers had the remote assistance feature enabled and even tweaked my firewall a little to see if that would help.

anyone got any suggestions? thanks

i dont like to use remote assistance on xp it is buggy and slow. have you updated the windows messenger to 4.7? if so and your parents have a name logged into it and contact you then click the remote assisitance link from it it should go through. if not(like i said it is buggy) check out the link below, it should cover about all your needs.

I always found it better to send an email and get into remote assistance that way. Whenever I tried using messenger i received the same error message. Don't know if you have tried it by email yet?
