Xp Pro Takes Forever To Log Off User

Arghhh...Help!

I've tried everything....when I first loaded the operating system and/or roll back any updates and "repair" the operating system, all is working as it should BUT over time, it takes longer and longer for a user to log off.

I have XP Pro set-up with 4 user accounts. When a user logs off, the screen goes black and it takes at least 2 minutes to log off the user and get back to the logon screen. Doesn't matter which user. I can't see any evidence of any applications running in the background. As stated above, when the operating system was first installed or re-installed, it works great and then develops again over a few weeks.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!
