winXP freezes when installing/loading/working
when i play some games or i install some program, winXP may freeze anytime.
now it had freezed few times in XP loading screen when i turn on the computer.
sometimes the computer will reset by itself.
when that freeze happens, the picture onscreen will just stop, when moving mouse the cursor wont move or with keyboard the letters wont come out.
when installing programs from CD the CD-driver will just stop.
simply it may stop anytime when its working or has a task.
but it hasnt freezed with Winamp or mediaplayer yet. ?
i got;
XP home edition
AMD Barton(?) 2400+
3* 20gb HD 7200rpm
256 Mb DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 128mb.

I often find that random freezes, system reboots etc are caused by an overheating CPU. I have solved many of these problems by fitting a new cooler. Enter your system BIOS, and read the temperates of the CPU (if your BOIS supports this) and compare them with the normal temperatures for your CPU. If you have temperatures around 95 degrees C, then you are running too hot!

well, ill check if the cooler has some dust or crap inside, if that causes it.
hovewer my latest check tells heat being around 40-50C'.
question; if i format c: drive (example), do that means that all viruses in that drive are gone?
can it be virus what is behind all this problems?

For the record, you would also benefit from an extra 128MG RAM, minimum, IMO.
It would also be a good idea, as per your comments and the comments made by focussed, to give the inside of your computer a good blast with compressed air.
Good luck anyway....

Im not sure that i understand right, you mean of installing extra cooler inside?
(im bad on english).
what you mean of "compressed air" ?
'bout that RAM, i have no enought money to byu some extra memory, after i byued that new week-old pc where my problems are.
every body is saying " byu more RAM! " all the time..
so i THINK Computer SHOULD work still ,without any super maximum parts..
anyway the games what i play wont need so much from the computer ,
ex. GP4 needs 128 RAM, and 400 from CPU. and it works well when i play it,
till it freezes..

Hi Rau,
"Compressed Air" is like a can of Air. Basically you buy it from the shop, and it is like a spray can. You insert a small straw into the cap and spray into the fans etc of the inside of your PC.

Be careful with this stuff because if you tilt the can, then it can spray liquid which is NOT good. But read the instructions on the can.
This will clean out the dust & crap.
What Jazz means by the RAM is that some programs require a minimum of 256MB Ram, so increasing that gives you better performance. But it isn't always essential.

hi VirusEJ!
Yeah, i know that RAM will give extra performance, but if that has nothing to do with my problem i will be pleased if you just stop repeating that all the time,
sorry, im just - bout that people in the forums (not just this forum)
are repeating that RAM-think- in every case,
even if i make a poll about ;
"do you play didgeridoo?" , answer will be;
"no, but you should by more RAM!" .
but thanks VirusEJ, Jazz and Focussed! You gave me new idea to solve my problem, (not just the extra RAM )
by now my computer is in my local store(where i byue'd(?) it)
and propably they will fix it.
