Angry Windows Media Player 9 strange error (no message)

Only recently, when I try to run streamed windows media
player media from the internet, both in an embedded
player and if I test & click on one of the streams from
within windows media player's media guide, I get no
error, what happens is I see "connecting.." for a very
brief period, maybe half a secound, then windows media
player dissapears completely off the screen, as if it had
been exited. When embedded players are used within
websites i browse with internet explorer, the same
happens and all the internet explorer windows close.

I have tried to figure out what has gone wrong,
reinstalled directx,updated WMP,reinstalled WMP
codecs, however without an error message or any sign as to
what has gone wrong I am baffled, please help me solve
this error.

I have tested it on many different URLs, realmedia and
quicktime files are fine but when its an embedded windows
media player or a streaming wmv file, the application
just ends, i don't understand why. I don't think its the
codec because I tested a wmv stream in another program
called Media Player Classic, and the stream ran fine
whereas in Windows Media Player, it says "connecting.."
for an instant than straight away exits/dissapears. I
would use this other program but the streams embedded in
websites use wmp automatically, and when i click on one,
there isnt enough time to find out the address of the
stream (to copy&paste into media player classic) before
internet explorer closes.

Thanks for any help,
Met

Ditto

Me too..
Not only does it shut down my Media Player, but the folder containing the movie I want to play also has the same error.
I have searched everywhere online for an answer, but no one has come up with one yet.
PLEASE, if anyone knows how to help (short of tossing the computer out of the window, then setting it on fire) post here!!!!!!!!!
please?? I'll dance at your wedding!?
