Angry Anti virus failure

Hi there,
I have just installed a new hdd on my computer and have therefore installled win xp again.
I am a trusted fan of AVG by Grisoft. therefore i went to there web site and got the latest version and proceeded to install it.. But wait!!!! As sson as the window for the installtion pops up it disappears. I tried and tried with no luck
So i got on the web again and found some other anti virus progs.
This time i got them installed and the icons sits nicely in the sys tray.... UNTIL THAT IS i move the mouse anywhere close and the program shuts down.
Virus i thought. Did a scan... Nope!!!
I then downloaded a copy of zone alarm for my firewall. Same thing... Windows disappears and the prog closes.
Time and time again this happens
I have downloaded all the relvant updates from the microsoft site but still i can't get covered.
Someone help please before the viruses come and visit!!!!

Cheers
Daren

If AVG didn't install properly, so there was something wrong with your system before already anyway. And what do you mean by "some other anti virus progs"? More than one at a time can make trouble also. I would say install XP again (properly with the right drivers and updates) and install the anti virus program of your choice. If something is still wrong, then you'll need to do a BIOS update (if available).
