Hi,

My computer just recently started having this problem. Once in a while a message (explained at bottom) shows up and window explorer shuts down. I have no idea as to what the problem could be. Any suggestions??

Hi Exodia

Not a lot shows on Google, however, the following link refers to your exact error code: -

Suggested Resolution/Initial Troubleshooting:

Turn off System Restore, prior to performing all of the following and re-enable it after, if you wish to do so: -

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

The reason you need to disable System Restore, is that many of these pests/virii hide within the Restore files. These are protected by Windows, therefore the scans will delete the pests/virii from their initial location, but not from the Restore folder.

Run an online AV scan, as some virii are designed to disable installed AV. In addition, I take it that Black Ice is fully updated and properly configured: -

Dl, install, update and run the following free apps on a regular basis: -

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ (McAfee Stinger)

I take it you do not use p2p file sharing software such as KaZaA?

This may also work: -

Type "sfc /scannow" into Start > Run, without the quotes noting that there is a space between c and / and hit OK. Have your XP CD handy.

If all else fails, perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP: -

NB: Note that data loss may occur after reinstalling, repairing, or upgrading Windows XP. Therefore, backup all important data!

I did most of your suggetions and found that my system had a lot of errors. I fixed them but I'm now confronted with a minor issue. I just realised that the dividers in my computer are missing. The dividers divided the hard drives from the removables and shared folders. Can I get them back?

By the way, panda online av scanner found 6 errors, Spybot S & D found 77 errors. The viruses have been dealt with, but should I fix all the sybot errors? I read that it may delete some stuff like Word libraries.

Would you mind elaborating on that issue please??? LOL

The Spybot errors should be safe enough to fix, however, I would advise that you check through them individually, prior to fixing them. Personally speaking, I would do that in your situation. If you are unsure, Spybot incorporates a Recovery option, just for that purpose.

NB This is just a personal opinion, what with the virii and bots detected thus far, I would backup all important data and perform a 'clean install' in order to ensure that you have a clean, stable system from outset, taking into consideration the fact that you have not utilized all the tools that I recommended. As stated, this is just a personal opinion, as I like my system super clean. Just call me paranoid, man. LOL
