Angry Internet sites

I have a problem that boggles my mind. I am trying to help a friend buy & download an anti virus program but when I try to access www.mcafee.com or www.symantec.com I get a page cannot be displayed message. I was able to go to a number of other sites ok but not those. I have checked internet options to make sure security settings were set for medium etc. This is XP Home edition. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Bob

Unhappy Scripting/Java Scripting

Ok so I'm sure this has been covered before but here goes... I have 2 Machines a PIII 500mhz Dual with XP and a Dell 3 Gig with XP. Everything on the 500 works beautifully.
The Dell has the Mcafee Virus + firewall. If i go to websites like MSN.com (enhanced) or Yahoo Mail and a few others it takes forever for the page to load or it just doesn't load.
I have so far determined that it has to do with the Internet Options and Enabling or Disabling the scripting option. I went to MS website and followed their directions (new script engine) (new Direct X) uninstalled Sun Java and reinstalled the older MS Java with the patch, cleared cookies and temp internet folder and yet the 500Mhz system is loading all the web pages with no problems and the Dell system is stalling.
Anyone have any ideas short of a reinstall?

Appreciate it.

It turned out to be a version of the SASSER virus that had replicated itself over a thousand times, Cleaned the virus with STINGER problem went away, downloaded virus program no more problems.

Thanks all, Bob
