CD-RW Drive Problem

I have recently bought a new PC, with Windows XP installed.

Although CDs with data already installed can be read from the CD-RW drive, when I try to format CD-R and CD-RW disks for easy recording of photo images I can't. When I open The Direct CD window in Easy CD (basic version 5.0) and try to use the drop down menu to select the CD-Recorder nothing - except a blue bar - appears.

When I right click on the CD-RW drive icon,The mesage appears "E:/ is not accessible: incorrect function"

On clicking 'Properties' the window that appears has tags for General,Autoplay and Hardware - but not for Sharing, and Recording. So I can't activate' Enable CD recording on this drive: Very strange!!

As I understand it, I should be able to use a programme built into Windows XP to format CDs and then use them as a 'giant floppy' without Easy CD, but the PC is behaving as though the CD-RW drive didn't exist, whichever approach I use.

I'll be very grateful for any help please.

Denis, Welcome to this Forum.

Easy Cd Creator is not the best choice for burning CD but the is another discussion altogether...

Easy Cd creator (Roxio) has lots of known issue with Windows XP and I'm talking about the Platinum version, but It seem like you have the basic version and that must be even more painful. Please look at the first link I have provided and upgrade you CD writing software to something better then Basic and then we could bring your problem up once again.

Better choice of CD burning software is Nero (my opinion):

CD-RW Drive Problem

Many thanks snowmonkey for your quick reply.

I am interested to learn that Easy CD may be the culprit - bearing in mind your recommendation of Nero I'll download a trial copy and let you know how it goes.

Regards -

Denis

just a observation, you dont have to format a cdr to use it, it is ready to go right out of the pack. the only reason to format a cd would be to erase a cdrw.
