Question Unidentified hardware on XP

I just had to do a re-install of XP due to some wierd problem. While I fixed the wierd problem, I now have another one!!

There are two "bits" of hardware on Device Manager that XP does not recognise & is therefore unable to install drivers for it. I too have no real idea what they are!! I did both the recommended search for drivers automatically as well as the install drivers from a specific location & tried the Win XP CD plus other driver CD's that I can find.

The hardware in question are a multimedia controller & a multimedia video controller. The stupid thing is that my soundcard drivers are correctly installed & so are my video drivers plus all other cards that I have installed.

The REAL underlying issue is that I cannot get sound from my PC & am thinking these bits are the culprits. As above, device manager reports that my soundcard drivers are correctly installed & working but after the XP reinstall, I cannot get sound to work.

Is there anyway I can both find out what these bits of hardware are as well as get my sound to work??

Hi colio

Regarding the sound issue:

After checking to see if everything is properly connected, switched on and mute has not been checked, try the following: -

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices.

Does it display your sound card at the top of the Volume tab or SiS 7012 Wave, or something else?

Jazz.. you ROCK!!

That fixed it. It was set to another device, & I set it back to the soundcard. Don't know how I missed this before but thanks, you are a legend.
