Angry Taskbar will not remember

hey guys,

Got a problem with my taskbar.

Well one night i started up my computer and found the taskbar had now shrunk the quicklanch area down to 3 icons and some >> and the search assistant toolbar was always up. (My brother had been on the computer so i dont know what he'd ben up to and neither does he)

I figured this would be easy to remedy so i unlocked the toolbar, unchecked the search assistant toolbar, reactivated the ones i wanted active, resized my quicklaunch area, and then locked the taskbar again.

Unfortunately, i dont know why, each time i restart it reverts back to the earlier configuration no matter how many times i do this.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this one? I;m gonna go mental if i have to resize much more!

Ta

Hi stubblychin

Your brother may have inadvertently dl some kind of spyware, malware, etcetera.

Turn off System Restore, prior to performing the following and re-enable it after, if you wish to do so: -

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

The reason you need to disable System Restore, is that many of these pests/virii hide within the Restore files. These are protected by Windows, therefore the scans will delete the pests/virii from their initial location, but not from the Restore folder.

Run an online AV scan, as some virii are designed to disable installed AV. In addition, I take it that you have a quality, updated and properly configured AV and Firewall on your system: -

Dl, install, update and run the following free apps on a regular basis: -

http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html (CWShredder)

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ (McAfee Stinger)

I take it you do not use p2p file sharing software such as KaZaA?

Also, try the following as well: -

Type “sfc /scannow” into Start > Run, without the quotes, noting that there is a space between c and / hit OK and have your XP CD handy.

Good luck..........

go to control panel, then add/remove programs and then remove Windows SA program. When you reboot, you should be back in business. (If you have firewall, you may have to permit a web contact for process to complete).

This company Blaze Find ahs stuck that stuff on your task bar. S_rew them!
