Try the compatibility wizard. Right click the .exe and choose properties. Then the compatibility tab, and check the box to use in compatibility mode; and chose Windows 95.
Good luck

Hey Yea i luv all new games but i recently wanted to have a go of duke nukem 3D (Hense Real Old!) and it wouldnt work what i did was simple "didnt bother again" as winXP sucks for games anyway! they say it does not but to be fair it does and the only thinkg i would do is install win95 - 98 on your machine as a seperate partition so for your old games run it under win 95 - 98 and then for work just use XP thats the easyest thing i can think off

I assume these games are Dos based. If you are using Fat32, A dos boot disk would be the best choice, installing from dos as well. If using NTFS.... Well that's a different matter

yep, it sure is. hmm, it doesnt matter really. just would like to play it when i get bored sometimes. amongst other games. all new games are pretty crap imo. none of them appeal to me. 'the sims' did, which i dont like to admit, but that got tedious after 10 minutes, and 10 more add-ons! lol

You just need to fanny around
You lot give up to easily! I'm running XP Pro and am still able to play the old 'classics' such as Day of the Tentacle, Duke 3D, Rise of the Triad, Railway tycoon, monkey island etc.
First big problem with XP is sound compatability. For this you have two options. 1) install a soundblaster live! 1024 as a second sound card and set up lpt irq sharing (this allows you to use irq7 which all good DOS games love) 2) You can download the free VDM soundsystem from
http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/
This works as a soundblaster 16 emulator for XP and 2000 and its TOP!
Once sounds sorted out use the capatability wizard, with the VDM modified shortcut (read the instructions, it'll make sense) and set it to 640x480, 256 colours in Windows 95 mode and there you go.
VDM is so good it even works with Elite II: Frontier, who remebers what a bitch that was to get working even with just DOS!
