taskbar problem
when i startup windows, my taskbar goes weird like this
http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v51/silpan/blah.jpg
as you can see from the screenshot, the active program buttons get squished to the side.
when I move it back, it goes back like that at my next startup.
anyone know why it keeps on going to the side?
and how can I make the active program buttons to stay at its normal spot?

I am having a similar problem. Whenever I restart my computer my taskbar resets itself.
Though mine resets itself differently. That above...I think.
All my quick launch icons are reset and in alphabetical order. My address bar tool is removed and the default tool on the taskbar is shoved to the side like in his SS. The only difference I think is that mine keeps the double row setting that I have set.
I read some other forums and one person said that the taskbar config file might have been changed and then set to read only by some program. Only problem is that they did not specify the name of the config file and I cannot find it.
I ran Norton, and it didn't find anything, and neither did Ad-aware Pro.
I am also an Administrator and have not set the windows reg key to reset the taskbar after restart.
(To the person above, if you are not an Administrator then I would check that. Or if you are, then check to make sure a program did not do it for you.)

Try Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! from Kelly's Korner. It should be able to fix the problems you're both having. The basic program is free. If you need it to fix any of things with asterisks (*), it's well worth the minimal $5 cost.

It didn't fix the problem on my computer.
Maybe I am doing the wrong thing? What option on the list did you think would help?

"Repair Taskbar icon views" but I guess it didn't work.
Sometimes toggling the Quick Launch bar off and back on jogs Windows into sorting things out correctly. Also, in the screen shot it looks like you have the Taskbar locked. Have you tried unlocking it, getting it the way you want it, leaving it unlocked through at least one reboot (just another approach to toggling on/off)?

Yup, the "Repair Taskbar icon views" didn't work.
I had already tried the other two and they didn't work.
It seems that a lot of people are having this problem because I have seen a lot of posts like this on other forums but no one has come up with a solution.

I already tried unlocking the toolbar and restarting the computer. It didn't work.
The "Repair Taskbar icon views" didn't work for me either :[

You said you unlocked the toolbar, but have you tried resizing it , uncheck lock the taskbar, also try unchecking quicklaunch which seems to be taking up the majority of our taskbar space

Try "Allow Changes Being Made to Taskbar" (line 243) from Kelly's Korner.
Before you run it, you can open it in Notepad to see what registry edits it makes.

same problem
Taskbar state is not saved when user logs out and it always goes back to its initial state on the next logon. I was trying to show the quick launch bar. I have no problem enabling on the current user session, but when I log out and back in again, the quick launch bar diappears again! That drives me nuts.
Googled all over the place and this board is the only place that ever mentioned the similar problem. Any solution? The readonly file explanation makes sense, but I can't find its location either.
I noticed that this problem started happening after I got infected with some stupid parasite softwares (adwares) and removed them using ad-aware by lavasoft.
Any update or solution?

Same problem here I also remember it happened after fixing some adwares using Adaware. None of the fixes found in the 'net works either. If you find any solution, please update. I'm also trying to findout the reason using some registry tools.

Bad luck with the stupid taskbar problem
While attempting to fix the stupid taskbar problem I accidentally removed the default user document and settings folder, which effectively removed all the program links in the start menu and left me no choice but to reinstall everything, which was what I did.
It was hard to me to tell whether the taskbar read-only problem was caused by a spyware or by the repair of ad-aware. I learned the lession the hardway and would definitely be more careful when downloading and running third-party programs and try to find a better spy-ware remover than ad-aware.
Good luck to you all. Please keep us updated in case anybody find a solution. Thx.

Worth trying
Resetting all user and default user was my last resort, and it appeared to be working before I accidentally deleted the important "all user" folder.
You may try deleting your current user folder (has to be done under another user name). That might work, as long as make backups of your deleted folder to avoid the restallation that I had to go through. Good luck.
