Windows XP Pro boot up problems

My computer has Windows XP Pro installed with 5 different user accounts.
Whenever I try to access any of the user accounts all I get is the desktop picture. I am unable to see any of the desktop icons or cannot see or access the taskbar START menu.
What has happend and what can I try to fix it.
Please help.

Hi mikep99

Even though it is unpredictable and unreliable, try System Restore in Safe Mode.

Failing that, try installing and using the Recovery Console in Windows XP: -

Failing that, perform a Repair installation: -
