Need Help

Having problems starting and restarting windows XP!

Most of the time I get an error message that reads:

A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer error code:0x80040057

Then it goes to load in a way I am not familiar with.
Looks kinda like the first time we bought computer.
I have to restart several times to get XP to come up.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hi Boop

Have a thorough read at the following url for a possible resolution.

Admittedly, it states Error Code: 0x80004005, however, it may work in your situation.

Also this url: -

Good luck............

Jazz,
Thank you for your prompt response.
I read over the article that you sent me to,and unfortunately
I do not have the Windows XP cd.
It was not given to me with my computer purchase.

Any more suggestions? LOL

What make is your PC and do you have restore/recovery disks and a Users Manual that should have been given to you when you purchased the PC?

Jazz,
It is a hp pavilion.
It came with no restore disks.
It did however come with users manual.

I talked to a computer store in the small town where I live
and the man said that hp does not give out the CDs or the
restore disks.
He said he would however wipe out the system and reload.
Would this be a good idea???

Browse to the following link.

Read the instructions very carefully and perform whatever applies to you, remembering to backup, if you can/want to, where necessary. Print them out if in doubt: -
