Unhappy Winxp Freezes At Blue Welcome Sceen :x

I found that I had the same problem in another forum, but no true answers were given out. Here's the guy's problem, which is exactly the same problem I'm experiencing ...

Quote:
Windows XP freezes at blue welcome screen. It seems to
start up correctly. It goes through the black windows XP
professional screen with the green "wait bar", gets to
the blue windows XP welcome screen and at this point
nothing else happens, it stays there, nothing else. I
have mouse controll but nothing else. I don't think I
can get into safe mode to check anything as far as
hardware. The only other thing that I myself can do is
get into the CMOS.

No this isn't that other notorious WIN XP problem where the keyboard/mouse freezes at the log-in screen.

Thanks for any help~

do u have any USB mass storage devices connected. I had a dodgy external USB hard disk connected to my XP Pro system.
System just froze at the same point you mentioned. I disconnected the external drive, rebooted and all was well. (except I now had a either a dead external drive or a bad cable!)
But neither of those were as bad as a non-working windows.

If you have a USB port you can hook it up the same way you would with any other PC.

Well, I repaired my WinXP, and it's halfway working...
I think something edited my Registry where I can't open certain Control Panel folders (ie Sound, Display, and a few others). And my system doesn't recognize ANY file extentions lol, so if I want to open a program (say .exe), I would have to make a shortcut [.ink] and choose the *.exe program from there to use it... Since all *.exe files won't open manually - just hangs there :/ Well at least I found a temporary route around it, but I can't still adjust the d4mn Sound, Display, etc files that are most crucial to my everday use with my Laptop (Dell Inspiron 8100). I made a shortcut for Sound, Display, and the other stuff that I need from Control Panel, but the shortcut won't cut it. When I try and find the Control Panel with "Use a program to open/use this file", it acts as if there never was one (?) ... or is that normal?

Anyway, I guess I'll see what I can do to the Registry to fix this bs . I think it's either a) I remember force shutting it when trying to hibernate my laptop (stupid me), and maybe causing the changing/editing/corrupting some essential files? or b) I got some unknown worm that edited some of my Registry - even though I have a constantly updated Nortan AV and ZoneAlarm (so it would be odd if it were infact, a worm)...

So, I guess I have something to look forward in the next couple of days/weeks. Thanks to all in trying to help me! And about my previous post, I read wrong lol. Thought u said "Internal"...ahh nvm, it was 2 am in the morning <- me in da morning

Thx again!
