Exclamation CD + DvD Drives acting up in xp!!

Ok I have my cd/dvd comb drive on master, my sata hard drive on everything... basically EVERYTHING hardware wise is ok, everything in bios is fine too. The problem is, I cant see my cd disk drive in my computer. It shows up in device manager and has a yellow "!" in front of the symbol. It says the error is this...

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Now I tried uninstalling and re-installing it in device manager. I even tried using different drives.. I even used an external usb cd drive! IT still does NOT work! Every drive I hook up, I get the same thing, same error. So can anyone help me out? Its been like this for over 2 months, i've just been too lazy to fix it. PLLEEEAASSEE HEELLP!!

Hi again royce

This snippet is from the Toshiba Storage Device Division, at the following URL: -

http://sdd.toshiba.com/cda/main.aspx...00659c000003ca

Verbatim

ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require any unique device drivers for Windows '95/'98/2000/XP/NT.

After installing your drive and re-booting, your system should recognize your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

Win '95/'98/2000/XP/NT Operating Systems support all Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives natively.

SCSI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

SCSI interface drivers are written for the SCSI card you are using in your system, by the SCSI card manufacturer. They are not specific to your Toshiba drive and are not provided by Toshiba.

If during installation Windows can not find the correct SCSI software driver for your SCSI card and you do not have the software driver that came with your SCSI card, contact your SCSI host adapter manufacturer.

Adaptec

LSI Logic

http://www.lsilogic.com/

Is it still under warranty? If so, I would suggest that you get a replacement, or get your money back and find an alternative.

I realize this does not help resolve your issue, however, my CDROM/DVD player decided to give up the ghost last week. I purchased a replacement Samsung for GBP29.99. Works perfectly.

Begs the statement. $200.00 USD does seem rather excessive.

Good luck though.......................

Its not the drive! I use other drives and it says the same thing. I am using Windows XP and it says that WinXP should already have the drivers, it does but it still gives me this error. This makes no sense, I have tried installing, and uninstalling, using those ATAPI drivers and everything!! Gahhhh this sucks, I need my cd drive back!

Sorry to hear that royce.

The following link pertains to your exact error code. Hopefully, it will resolve your issue. It involves amending the registry, therefore, make a backup of the registry first. If it does not work, merely import your saved registry: -

http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6200/rh6278.htm

Also found this: -

http://forums.devhardware.com/archive/t-19537

and this: -

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=97549

Ultimately, enter your error code into Google and have a nose around the many fixes, over 10 pages of info, as we could be going back and forth for weeks. LOL

In any case royce, I hope you sort it out......................
