I have a file (not a virus or system file) that I need to delete, but it keeps saying it is in use when I try to do so.
What I need is a way to boot up the computer in a command-prompt environment that is indipendent of the installed OS (Xp professional), so I can delete anything I please without the "file is in use" problem.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Creating a MS-Dos boot disk via right clicking on floppy drive. This did not help, as it could not access my hard drive.
Using an old Windows ME disk. Did not work, as it would not recignize NT file system.
Booting up in safe mode and safe mode with command prompt: In both cases it still said the file was in use.
Going to
www.bootdisk.com: I did not find what I am looking for, though it could be I just overlooked it. Closest thing I found was a setup disk set that takes up 6 floppys. Don't currently have 6 floppys handy (I have CDs, but I don't know of any way to substitute them for the floppys). Is this setup disk set what I am looking for?
If it is, I'll go snag some floppys, but don't want to make the trip if all it is going to do is allow me to access the CD-ROM (which seemed to be all it does going by the description on the page).
Thank you for your time and consideration.
