Cooling issues with CPU
2.0 Celeron
P4M266A mobo
9600pro 128 ATI
384 DDr
40g WD hd
LG52x32x52xCDRW
3 intake@2900RPM/ 1 blower and Power supply exhaust fan
OK well last week I was trying to OC this chip and got it working to 2.3 by adjusting the FSB to 115FSB(20x). My cpu temp was at 70~71 with stock Heat/fan. So I put FSB back to factory @ 2.0 temp was at 69~70temp1(STOCK) its always been this temp since I got COMP. I just installed(today) an Aero 4 heatsink and fan along with arctic silver 5 thermal, to lower temp, but both speed fan and MBM show 69~70temp1 & ~40Ctemp2 same as before. At startup in BIOS, power setting read my temps @ 34Ctemp1 and 20Ctemp2. After installing this new Heatsink I'd expect my temp to drop and they havent, so any one have any suggestions as to why they are not low, are my temp too high? Did I install this Heat/fan right?

Yeah, first, just to straighten up my thoughts. If the temps are not all the same scale, try to make them that way. MBM has a setting to change the scale from F to C. If the temps are all the same scale (C), then you definitely have a melted core at 70 C. Also, as you probably know, MBM is kinda tough to get set up. your best bet is to stick with the BIOS readings. When you can get MBM to read close to what the BIOS says (check BIOS, boot, and start MBM as quick as you can), then you start trusting MBM. But your processor should be fine all the way up to 130 F ( and this is a really low figure, but it is safe). Hope this helps

turns out that a sensor was being confused with cpu sensor and some other misread temps(wrong diode, winbonds?? sensor stuff). Ok i setup MBM5 to read similar to my bios, my last temp was ~41 @ 2.2ghz.
Right now, i have just turned on Computer and it is showing ~38C @ 2.3ghz but i havent gotten around to playing CS which will bring up my temp. Does Arctic Silver 5 get better as time progresses cause wow Im at 38C.
Does any1 know some things to watch out for, which could indicate that my cpu should not be pushed that far?
Anyone know the temp specs for Celeron 2.0 or 478 chipsets? I have serched intel but they only show up to 1.6ghz which is a completely different chip w/o p4 micron technology

Another thing that may help is to make sure you have put the Arctic Silver on "correctly". Follow the instructions, only I am sure you did and I can't remember what they tell you to do. But the biggest thing, until you are sure of yourself, is to apply, install, take apart andt check to make sure you have no dry spots. They give you enough to outfit a fleet of CPU's, so if it takes 2 or 3 times before you trust your application, so be it. I usually put a little spot, about 1/4 inch long on both the CPU and Heatsink. Then I take a playing card, and first draw the bead out into a line, then I "pull" it with the playing card, until I have a nice even coat where the CPU touches the heatsink, and the same on the CPU. Then I put just a little dab on the CPU for good measure, and then drop the heatsink on. But pay attention to only let the CPU contact the heatsink one time. try not to let it slide around, or touch in 2 places, you'll wind up with a dry spot, and that can cause you to run a little warm, or maybe worse. I like Arctic Silver, but it is so dang hard to get used to, I never tell anyone to use it anymore. But, on the other hand, my syringe is about 2.5 - 3 years old and maybe a new syringe would make a big difference.... Oh well, I am almost out anyway.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm gonna try another application, and check out my last one. I'll post how it went.

by the way, did a little hardcore digging, and found the "thermal spec" for your processor was 68°C. In Intels glossary, thermal spec read as the hottest point the processor will give reliable performance. Hope this helps.

So, i reapplied AS5 onto cpu and heatsink, made sure I spread it well. I guess I must of had some dry spots cause it looked weird when i removed the heatsink, kinda blochy.
I just finished my first test run @ 2.0ghz and full load is at 39C. 36C idle and dropping. So im gonna give 2.2 a try tomorrow.
Anyways I appreciate your help, thankx for the thermal spec I'll remember that while pushing my CPU to a stable overclock.
