Performance tweak for WinXP

In your performance tweaks for Winxp : "Clean your prefetch to improve performance", you say to delete the junk and obsolete files in the prefetch file. How does one know which are junk or obsolete files? Can you delete them all? Or do you go by the date;any file older than a month? I don't know what half of those files are. How do you know which ones to delete? Can you give me a better detailed explanation of this particular tweak? Thanks.

The files in XP's Prefetch folder are data files related to enhancing the speed at which applications start.
