Task Manager

When i open task manager either by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete or by going run: taskmgr.exe It opens up the task manager but before i even get a change to look at it or change anything it just closes and i cannot do anything about it, can anyone help me?

I also have the same problem with Regedit...

I am running XP Home

Sounds like the old Blaster worm. Go here for a removal tool, then run it. After that, go to the start menu, and at the top, click on Windows Update.

it didnt seem to fix the problem, the program said that "W32.Blaster.Worm has not been found on your computer." And the problem still occurs.

What should i do from here?

This may take a few tries to get it, but I'd say you definitely have a virus. Slap me if I am wrong...

1st, go to a good on-line Virus scanning site, like this one .

If it puts a halt to this, then you will need to boot into safe mode with networking to do it. Restart your PC, after the POST screen, tap F8, F10, or whatever it takes to get to the safe mode boot screen. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. Then try going back to that site.

If still no go, you will need to boot to regular safe mode, and try getting into msconfig (type that into run box), and then look under the startup tab and disable anything that looks unfamiliar. Then try booting up into your regular account, and try again.

I agree with curtybob that it's a virus. Here's some more info on viruses that cause this.

Here are some more on-line virus scanners and security tests.
