Windows XP upgrade to Windows XP?

I've been using my dad's copy of Windows XP on my computer until I can buy my own, which I can now. Is it possible to buy the upgrade and "upgrade" from my current copy of Windows XP or do I have to go ahead and buy the full thing? I went ahead and bought the upgrade but am not going to try it until I know for a fact since I wouldn't be able to take it back.

You have to buy a full copy of Windows XP or if you have Windows ME or Windows 98 licensed for your computer then you can get a upgrade version of XP.

you do not need to worry about a licened legal copy of 98 just use anyones 98 you can put it on your drive then upgrade with that, but i have to tell you you stand a good chance of not getting a good clean install of XP through an upgrade the clean install is always best way to go, i think there is a way to do a clean install of an upgrade disk but i don't know how it is done, also i would strongly think oftaking your upgrade back and spending a few pound more for the full version. you can get some great deals on ebay for the full version of XP PRO
