Locate link browser

Installed firefox web browser and when I clicked on a URL in outlook a dialog box appeared saying Locate link browser, even though firefox launched. So I pointed Locate link browser to firefox exe and now 2 firefox windows launch each time I click a URL from outlook and word, have not tried others programs

Anyone know how to get the locate link browser dialog box to launch. It's driving me nuts and i can not find it on the web.

Double-click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab.
Under Extension, locate the "N/A" entry, and then locate the "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" entry under File Types.
Click Advanced.
Under Actions, edit Open and remove the tick in DDE, press OK. select Open
Click Set Default, and then click OK two times

do that for URL: HyperText with security
also and maybe for HTML HTM if still doesn't work. and you'll be fine

as you can see, I registered in order to give you the reply :P

this is an OutLook (andNotOnly) BUG that MS has confirmed but does nothing to fix it (because it doesn't concern MS products)
see here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;821692

it should be fixed in next versions of FireFox probably. at the moment just get this fix (for another Mozilla valn this time)!

http://update.mozilla.org/extensions...nfo.php?id=154
or

http://dready.org/

0.7.2 is out to fix this, but the ONLY difference between 0.7.2 and 0.7.1 is this fix. so just get the fix :P

Excellent post, zeppelin, fixed my double-launching of Firefox.

How about this Firefox-related problem: when I get an email, MSN Messenger (6.2) pops up and says "x new e-mail messages". BUT, when I click on the link, that damn IE runs instead of Firefox!

Do you know how to fix this ?

I had the same issue after installing 0.9. rather than unchecking DDE, I just removed the "IExplore" in the application textbox. then started firefox again and no problems. now the application textbox shows "firefox" and DDE is still enabled.

Thank you for the posts on this problem. I found this forum using Google and before banging my head against the monitor.

This issue started today after installing Netscape 7.2 on Windows XP Home edition. Prior to that, I did not have the window popping up to "Locate Link browser" and it also started in Foxfire. My resolution was to use my set point from yesterday.

Microsoft does not list Windows XP as one of the systems this is an issue on. They suggest installing XP as a fix. Go figure.

XP is definitely affected by this bug.
I just fixed it, though it took a couple tries...

It seemed like it wasn't working, and no matter how many times I tried to "uncheck Use DDE" when I opened up that File Type action, it was checked again.

After restarting Outlook a couple times, though, it seems to be fixed.

i read the fix for the locate link browser and tried it but it didn't let me do it. i was running mozilla and just recently uninstalled it. i also, uninstalled mozilla in safe mode and took it out of the registry. spy sweeper wasn't compatible and also the amount of plugins that it is missing is annoying. my son plays games on "noggin" and mozilla won't play them.
i am running IE with office 2003. when i go to click on anything from an email i get, the "locate link browser" comes up.

os- xp pro media edition

please help, it is driving me crazy
thanks

Talking Thanks Zeppelin !!

Thanks for the response about the Locate Link Browser issue. I have been trying to figure out why this suddenly started happening and more importantly how to make it STOP happening !! Your response with instructions how to stop this was amazingly simple and to the point -- yet so effective. I really appreciate it !!

"Locate Link Browser" problem with Outlook / Firefox

The instructions for eliminating the error works fine for Windows XP, but do you have a "fix" for those of us running Windows Vista?

Clicking a link in an email opens the web site and opens a "Locate Link Browser" dialog box.
