Search Only works when online??

im having problems with the SEARCH on XP it tells me i have a file missing when i try to search my pc.

But strangley if im logged onto the net it works.i know a couple of people that this is happening to
has anyone got any ideas?

ive tried searching on the net but as the msoft error messege doesnt tell me what file it thinks is missing im struggling to find any info..

Stupid question - but I take it you are refining the search parameters to only search local drives (A: C: etc)?

by default the XP search option includes online searching - so if you do not specifically tell XP to only search local drives then you may well get the kind of error you are reporting...but then again it is a bit of a weird error - you saying that XP is basically saying you have a file missing that is required in order for you to perform a search?

Not sure if the above will help - not directly encountered the same problem myself

if im not on line all i get is the error messege and then search just turns off.
but online no problems i can search my hard drive
