Problems with connecting to internet!

Well, as you probably guessed, my computer is having problems connecting to the internet. I don't know why, or how, but when I woke up this morning, it just didn't work. I tried reseting my router and modem, nothing. I released and renewed ips, I unhooked everything and rehooked it up, reset my computer, everything I could think of. For some reason my System Restore was turned off so I couldn't use that... When I went into internet explorer properties, for some reason it was set up to use a proxy, which I don't use, so I got rid of that, still didn't work... When I put in my router cd to configure my computer, for some reason it kept thinking I had a wireless router, and kept saying "Please reset the wireless barricade..." I've scanned for viruses and spyware, nothing came up. When I try to renew my ip in a dos command prompt window it says something along the lines of "unable to contact DHCP server." What does that meen?
How can I fix my internet? Your help is much appreciated! Please e-mail me if you can! dafuzzmasta@gmail.com

Direct Connect

I have a Linsky Router and a Verizon Modem. Also WinXP......
I"ve had that problem also.......First I wanted to make sure if I by passed the router I could connect to the internet and Yes I could. While I still had power to the router I hit the reset button and then pulled the power to it. and the blue and yellow cables were already disconnected. Then I took the CD that came with the router and reinstalled the software but DIDN'T HAVE THE ROUTER CONNECTED until the software asked for it. Doing that always works for me........

Didn't work.. When I connect the computer straight to the internet, and unhook the router, it still won't work. All the settings seem to look fine.. Maybe my ethernet card is fried...

Lightbulb RE: Problems with connecting to internet!

Also, it could be your modem. I don't know which ISP you have, but you should ask for a replacement modem, I've had that problem. Also, if it is your modem, then you can probably just unplug the wire from your modem, unplug the power from it, insert the wire again, and power it back up. If either don't work, you have one f*ked up comp, my friend.

Wasn't my modem, was my Winsock. I fixed it with Winsockfix.
