Question 1) logging and 2) xp theme.. complicated

I have two unique problems on my XP Home computer. Its been driving me nuts figuring out.. hope someone can help me

1) My welcome screen is gone. It's logging in the win2k-style.

The welcome menu and Fast user switching IS enabled. I also do NOT have .NET Framework installed. I heard about some third-party programs resetting some registry value, but i checked that out and it is fine (i think userinit.exe?). I haven't seen this problem brought up anywhere, so I'm guessing I screwed something up and screwed myself.

2) More recently.. I downloaded a PowerToy (wallpaper-auto-changer), and didn't think of saving the registry. When I used it, something went wrong, and nearly everything turned black (all but icons and the background).

I opened the Display (a big black box) and changed the current theme down one (to theme xp?) and it went back to the default XP Theme, and it was fixed - I could see again. But the next day I went on and the Theme was 98-style!

..so, the options I have now is an XP theme Modified (to 98 version), the Classic Theme, and that's it! The orig XP theme option is gone!.

-=> If I save the registry, then reinstall XP Home and import it, will it correct these problems? or will they stay? Any suggestion/solutions? Thanks a lot.

Re: 1) logging and 2) xp theme.. complicated

I just realized that somehow a lot of my administrator services were screwed up. I fixed a lot of them and have my XP Theme back

The logging on/off is still a problem. I still have to type in the name of the user and the password (or leave it blank if I don't have one)

I don't know if I have the right services enabled, or if its some third-party program unknown problem.
